Reacts with anaerobic sludge to neutralize odours, liquifying solids and facilitating easy pump-outs; the spent residue from the reaction is sodium carbonate (baking soda)
This cleaning action also greatly reduces odour permeation through plastic hoses and tanks by removing deposits built up on the inside walls
